A...Gloup is one of Isabel Miramontes' most playful and poetic sculptures. With her characteristic elegance and subtle humour, the artist captures a deeply human moment that everyone instantly recognizes.
A tall, slender figure stands frozen in an unexpected instant, its elongated neck interrupted by a mysterious ring. Has the character swallowed too quickly? Is it trying to digest a difficult truth, unexpected news, an emotion, or perhaps the fear of speaking? Or maybe it is simply holding back words that cannot yet be spoken.
Like all great works of art, Gloup offers no single answer. It invites us to smile, to wonder, and to project our own stories onto the sculpture.
Behind its apparent simplicity lies a profound reflection on the human condition. Throughout life, we all carry moments that become "a lump in the throat"—unspoken emotions, joyful surprises, difficult decisions or overwhelming happiness. Isabel Miramontes transforms this familiar sensation into a sculpture of remarkable elegance and originality.
The elongated silhouette, balanced proportions and flowing lines create a feeling of serenity despite the tension within. The bronze seems almost weightless, allowing light to travel across its graceful surfaces and giving the figure an extraordinary presence.
Gloup is both poetic and universal—an artwork that brings a smile, sparks conversation, and reminds us that even our moments of hesitation are part of what makes us beautifully human.
