“Almost Flying” is a celebration of movement, freedom and the beautiful moment just before we leave the ground.
With one foot still touching the earth and the body carried forward by an invisible impulse, the figure seems suspended between reality and flight. His open arms, lifted face and flowing garment express an irresistible desire to move, to discover, to become lighter. He does not quite fly yet — and perhaps that is precisely where the poetry begins.
Lieven d’Haese captures here that precious instant when courage overcomes hesitation: the moment when we dare to trust the movement within us and take one step beyond what we know.
There is something deeply human in this figure. He reminds us that life is not about always having our feet firmly on the ground, but also about allowing ourselves to dream, to leap, and to believe that we can go further.
“Almost Flying” brings an extraordinary sense of energy and optimism into a space. It feels alive from every angle, as though the sculpture could take flight at any moment. For a collector, it is not simply a beautiful bronze figure, but a poetic presence — a daily reminder to remain curious, courageous and open to what lies ahead.
A sculpture to live with, and perhaps to keep reminding us that sometimes, all we need to do is take that first step towards the sky.
