It is an emblematic piece of my work produced in very large format. The roundness of the elephant contrasts with the erect trunk supporting a baby elephant to give a feeling of play and dynamism.
I made a very large sandstone for the "Open Sky Museum" exhibition, Pompon Museum city of Saulieu in 2016. I have just edited from this sandstone two bronzes 1 and 2/8 "Great equilibrists" the latter acquired by the CPH bank to animate its garden.
It is an emblematic piece of my work produced in very large format. The roundness of the elephant contrasts with the erect trunk supporting an elephant to give a feeling of play and dynamism. I am gradually moving towards these large bronze pieces, because the sculpture is never more beautiful than outdoors, subject to the play of light.
With Big Acrobats, Sophie Verger transforms the monumental into something deeply poetic and profoundly human. Balancing between gravity and lightness, strength and fragility, these improbable animal acrobats seem suspended in a moment of pure freedom — a celebration of trust, playfulness, and the joy of life itself.
Verger’s universe is instantly recognizable: tender, humorous, and emotionally alive. Beneath the apparent whimsy lies a remarkable mastery of movement and balance. The sculpture invites us to reconnect with wonder, with childhood imagination, and with the beauty of daring to rise together.
Placed in a garden, at the entrance of a property, or in the center of a landscaped outdoor space, Big Acrobats becomes far more than a sculpture: it becomes a living presence. Throughout the day, natural light animates its textured bronze surface, creating changing shadows and reflections that give the work an almost theatrical vitality.
To live with this sculpture is to welcome a daily emotion into one’s environment — a feeling of joy, elegance, freedom, and quiet strength. It is the kind of artwork that transforms a home into a place with soul, and leaves a lasting impression on every guest who encounters it.
For a collector, acquiring Big Acrobats is not only choosing a major sculptural statement, but embracing a timeless work filled with poetry, personality, and life.
