Five young ladies, friends or sisters, tenderly entwined chatting together. I have played on the sharing of their glances to animate the group. It will soon be a dozen years that I have worked on these anthropomorphic giraffes in parallel with my other creations. A way of expressing woman.
With Five Young Ladies, Sophie Verger creates a sculpture filled with grace, tenderness, and quiet poetry. These elongated feminine giraffe figures stand side by side like a timeless sisterhood — elegant, protective, and deeply connected to one another.
Balancing between the human and the animal world, Sophie Verger gently blurs the boundaries between instinct and sensitivity, strength and fragility. The giraffe, symbol of gentleness, elevation, and intuitive wisdom, becomes here a poetic reflection of femininity itself.
The textured surface and soft natural patina give the sculpture an almost ancient presence, as though it had emerged from memory or dream. Despite its sculptural stillness, the piece feels alive — calm, watchful, and profoundly peaceful.
Placed in an entrance hall, a living room, a quiet reading corner, or near natural light, Five Young Ladies immediately brings elegance and soul into a space. Its vertical rhythm creates a beautiful architectural presence while remaining warm and emotionally accessible.
To live with this sculpture is to surround oneself with harmony, feminine energy, serenity, and silent companionship. It is the kind of artwork that slowly becomes part of daily life — comforting, inspiring, and deeply human.
For a collector, Five Young Ladies is not only a sculpture to admire, but a poetic presence to live beside for many years.
Provenance
It is a very old story, perhaps a myth, perhaps not, when the earth was a garden where they lived in peace, an era of harmony and of games: the childhood of the world. It was a time when the children of men learned to speak the language of the seal, even before the forces of nature incarnates themselves sometimes in the hippopotamus, sometimes in the crocodile.Exhibitions
