There are sculptures that capture a movement, and there are others that capture a state of being. “Balancing My Givings”by Belgian sculptor Marc de Corte belongs to this second, more intimate world — where the body becomes the reflection of the soul.
At first sight, we are captivated by the extraordinary elegance of this suspended female figure. Resting on one single hand, her entire body unfolds into space with absolute confidence and grace. There is strength, but no tension. There is power, but also an infinite softness. The sculpture seems to defy gravity, as if time itself has stopped for one precious second.
Through this delicate balance, Marc de Corte invites us to reflect on one of the greatest challenges of human life: the art of giving without losing ourselves.
The title Balancing My Givings carries a profound meaning. Every day, we give — our love, our energy, our time, our attention. We give to our family, our dreams, our passions, and to the people we care for. Yet true harmony comes when we find the perfect balance between offering ourselves to the world and preserving our own inner strength.
The dancer’s gesture becomes a beautiful metaphor for this equilibrium. One hand firmly connected to the earth, the rest of the body freely reaching toward infinity. She is grounded, yet she flies. She is vulnerable, yet incredibly strong.
The turquoise-green patina chosen by the artist enhances this feeling of serenity and renewal. It recalls the purity of water, the breath of nature, and the peaceful energy of a quiet morning. The surface of the bronze catches the light softly, revealing every curve, every tension and every subtle emotion sculpted by the artist’s hands.
Marc de Corte’s talent lies in his ability to transform bronze — a material traditionally associated with weight and permanence — into a sensation of movement, freedom and lightness. The female body is not simply represented; it becomes a poem of balance, courage and self-discovery.
Placed in a contemporary interior, Balancing My Givings brings an exceptional presence. It creates a moment of silence and inspiration — a reminder to breathe, to trust ourselves, and to continue moving forward with grace.
More than a sculpture of a dancer, this artwork is a celebration of life itself: the beauty of finding our own balance between what we give, what we receive, and who we truly are.
A sculpture of strength.
A sculpture of harmony.
A sculpture that reminds us to stay beautifully balanced while embracing the world.
