There are moments in life when we stand between what we know and what we dream of becoming. A silent instant before a decision, before a transformation — that fragile but powerful moment when we choose to trust, to open ourselves, and to take a leap of faith.
With “When I Take a Leaf of Faith”, Belgian sculptor Marc de Corte captures this extraordinary human moment and transforms it into an image of grace, courage and inner freedom.
Standing tall with both arms fully extended, this young woman creates a powerful dialogue between earth and sky. Her body is perfectly still, yet everything in her posture suggests movement — the invisible movement of the soul preparing to fly. She is not protecting herself from the unknown; she welcomes it.
Her open hands become one of the most meaningful gestures of the sculpture. They symbolize acceptance, trust and the willingness to receive what life has to offer. Like a leaf carried by the wind, she accepts that not every path can be controlled — sometimes beauty begins when we dare to let go.
The title itself carries a poetic play on words: taking a “leaf of faith” becomes a symbol of choosing hope, of believing in a new chapter, of allowing life to guide us toward unexpected possibilities.
The elegance of the female figure reveals Marc de Corte’s exceptional sensitivity. The purity of the lines, the peaceful expression of the face and the perfect balance of the body create a rare harmony between physical strength and emotional softness.
The turquoise-green patina gives the bronze a timeless and almost spiritual presence. It evokes nature, water, renewal and serenity. Under natural sunlight, the sculpture constantly transforms — every hour revealing new reflections, new emotions, new conversations between the artwork and its environment.
Installed in a garden, beside water, or within a contemporary interior, “When I Take a Leaf of Faith” becomes a symbol of positive energy. It reminds us every day to remain open: open to dreams, open to change, open to the beauty that arrives when we have the courage to believe.
More than a sculpture of a young woman, this artwork is a celebration of trust and transformation.
A moment before flight.
A breath before a new beginning.
A beautiful reminder that sometimes, the greatest journeys start when we simply open our arms to life.
